Established in 2019, the Institute of EndocrinologyMetabolism at the First Affiliated Hospital of University of South China was built upon the National Key Clinical Specialty in Endocrinology, the Hunan Clinical Research Center for Diabetes, the Hunan Clinical Research Center for Obesity PreventionTreatment. The Institute is dedicated to clinical managementresearch of common metabolic diseases such as diabetesobesity. In recent years, it has developed distinct research strengths in areas including diabetes, obesity, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease, exploring an innovative system that spans molecular mechanisms, biomarker discovery, clinical translation.
The Institute boasts a strong research team, including three doctoral supervisorsnine master supervisors, as well as 14 PhD holders. Among them, two are recipients of the Special Government Allowance of Hunan Province, one was selected as one of the first discipline leaders in Hunan higher education institutions, two are high-level medical discipline leaders under the Hunan Health Talent Plan. The Institute serves as a training base for masterdoctoral students in endocrinologymetabolism at University of South China. Currently, it hosts over 30 doctoralmaster students, forming a multi-level talent development system that includes master, doctoral, postdoctoral training.
In recent years, the Institute has led 25 national-level51 provincial-level research projects, has published significant findings in high-profile journals such as Cell Metabolism and Advanced Science. It has contributed to the development of expert consensusguidelines for metabolic diseases in China, promoting professional standardsprogress in the field. The Institute has also organizedparticipated in multiple nationalprovincial continuing medical education programs, significantly enhancing its disciplinary influence.
Adhering to the principle of “research-led, clinical translation,patient-centered service,” the Institute of EndocrinologyMetabolism will continue to address major national strategic needschallenging clinical issues. It aims to further strengthen innovative researchtechnological development, striving to build an influential researchclinical center for metabolic diseases both domesticallyinternationally,to provide solid scientifictalent support for the Healthy China initiative.
